Here's some promo for the new Quatro Quads, which frankly look dirty good. Something about these boards that cut out all the bull and just hit the nail on the head - some good action here too otherwise I wouldn't have posted. Leave the technicals to Nasa, the one-liners to Arnie and the boards to Quatro.
Looking forward to grabbing one.

I'm fortunate enough to be picking up some of the new 2013 Quad LS's at some point over the coming few weeks, although I'm going to miss the 2012 versions. Sizes and shapes look a bit different for 2013 so let me know if you'd like some info on that but here's an overall description of the new ranges available:

Hope this is useful and gets the saliva drooling

Hi james
For 85kg light-med wind do you think 98 or 90....?
Whats the difference between the feel / use compared with the current LS 95 shape?
Cheers

Hi northy,
What sort of sail range have you been using with the LS 95?
James

Sorry James - think ive confused you.
I currently have the mistral twinzers 92 and 84 (the grey and pink ones from 09 that are super loose?) and id say most of my sailing is 5.3 and 5.9, and 80% on the 92. I sail in Pembs, with Lewis M. We get good DTL, but often gusty and light.
The reason i ask about the 95, is that i might be able to get one cheaper, haha!

More a case of me making assumptions I reckon ; ) You guys have been cleaning up with the down the line conditions by the sounds of it. Not sure how your summer's been, but last time I saw Lewis (in May) he had plenty of good things to say about the conditions at the start of the year. Now on to the boards...
Because the general rule is to not talk about sh*t you don't understand and since I haven't yet received the 2013 LS's I figured it was worth me speaking to someone in the know. So I actually had a chat with Lalo Goya this morning to find out some more about how they differed from the 2012s. Without paraphrasing, the beef is sort of like this....
The new Quad LSs are lighter and have more carbon than last years. Interestingly, they are actually sending in some of the raw materials such as carbon from Canada in to the Cobra factory because of the extra quality they achieve. He seemed pretty stoked about that, so they are taking this stuff seriously. In this way they are slightly thinner than last years.
The feel of them differs in that they are meant to be looser still on last year's, faster and more turny. ( This is obviously kinda what you would expect to hear from someone trying to promote a next generation of the board, but I'm a believer based on the performance increases I've experienced from the previous boards I've used. Although the proof is in the pudding, and hopefully I'll be chowing down in a few weeks. )
It sounds like they've probably integrated the extra turn/ speed by trying to incorporate some characteristics from the Quad KT. And it sounds pretty good. So he reckons you'll be receiving even more flow in your bottom turns and more likely to maintain the speed. These are all things they have been working on anyway. So it's basically like the previous board, but on Hawaiian steroids.
For me it's all about actually getting the feel / actual experience and talking about it then. Until I do that I can't say much more, but I could talk plenty about the 2012 Quad LSs.. There is no doubt that the 2012's are great, so like you say, you could save some cash this way but if you can stretch, it sounds like it could be worth it. What I like about Quatro is that they make shit hot boards, but in the end it's about how your style uses that board. They are flexible, since everyone has a different way to do a turn. Your turn might be slightly different on the 2012 or 2013 version, but you'll still be ripping if you're in the right mood on either.
Size wise, it's hard to say. I'm about 81kg and I use the 2012 Quad LS 85l from 4.7m to 5.8m float and ride and it suits me ok. But I'm quite happy being up to my knees if necessary. How the change is going to be going from the 92l to the 95l or 98l is probably down to how small the board feels. You might already know if going down to 90l would be too small....
Hopefully some of that is useful. Looks like you guys are going to get more from mother nature this weekend. Enjoy it!
